Death and life are in the power of the tongue: And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21
In 1 Kings 20, Ben-Hadad, the King of Syria, gathered together 32 kings and their chariots and sent word to Israel (God’s people), “This is what Ben-Hadad says: ‘Your silver and gold are mine, and the best of your wives and children are mine.’ The king of Israel answered, ‘Just as you say, my lord the king. I and all I have are yours.’” Ahab, the king of Israel, was intimidated by the words of the enemy.
You may allow the enemy to control the narrative of your life. He will tell you things like, “You are never going to get better,” “You will be held captive by this sin for the rest of your life,” or “You will always live in poverty.” Ben-Hadad knew that God was with the Israelites, and he was afraid of them, so that is why he gathered so many kings to join him in the attack. And if you are going through a time of harsh resistance, it is because the enemy knows who you are. The devil is afraid of people who pray, praise, preach, lift up the name of Jesus, and set captives free.
Later in this story, King Ahab takes a stand. He changes the narrative. He had agreed for the enemy to come in and take some of his belongings, but when the enemy was not happy with that response and demanded even more, King Ahab said, “Tell my lord the king, ‘Your servant will do all you demanded the first time, but this demand I cannot meet.’” Something snapped in him, and he decided in that moment that he had given up all that he was going to give up.
The enemy will never be satisfied. You need to get some fight in you, and there needs to come a time in your life that you decide to stop letting negative thoughts and words control your life. The Bible says, "Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and you will eat the fruit thereof.” Satan’s goal is to kill, steal, and destroy you and your family, but if you can change the narrative, you can change the outcome.
You need to realize that victory has a voice. Don’t let the enemy, circumstances, the world, or other people’s opinions control the narrative of your life. The enemy may tell you that you don’t have hope or a future, but just remind him that Jesus said, “I have come, and you may have life and life more abundantly.” The enemy may have your back against the wall today. He may be attacking your business, your children, or your marriage. He wants you to go around hating life and being bitter and defeated, but you can take a stand and begin to declare victory.
Don’t just accept defeat. Because of Jesus, you have abundance, protection, and blessing. No weapon formed against you will prosper! So quit saying what the enemy is saying and start saying what God says about you!
