In John 13, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and commanded them. He said, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you as an example that you should do as I have done for you (NIV).”
What a lesson! Jesus showed them the full extent of His love. How? By taking up a servant’s towel. Now He commands us to do the same. How about being a servant tomorrow at your job? Even your home is a perfect place to show your love. Put this commandment to action by exhibiting a servant’s heart where God has planted you.
Paul reminds us again in Galatians 5:13, "For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh but serve one another through love." I encourage you to go out of your way to serve someone today. In a world that is struck with the fear of illness, serve one another, just as Christ has served us.
I challenge you to consider how you will be a servant today. Will you help a family member, pay for someone’s groceries, or write encouraging letter to a friend or neighbor? Pray and ask God for an opportunity to exhibit a servant’s heart as He did in John 13.
What a great message. Serve others as Christ has served us. We are called to lay down our lives for one another. We cannot let a threat stop us from serving and loving one another!
AMEN! Great Message Pastor!
